subliminal messages...

I saw, yet another commercial that upset me, coming from a females eye anyway. It was one of many Twix commercials. The wife is getting the baby out of the car, while the dad is watching these half-dressed really young girls, in the middle of a pillow fight outside, in the middle of the day. The mom is still trying to get the baby with her hands full, and notices him staring all goo-goo eyed at the girls. She says something like, are you staring at those girls or what are you doing? He grabs a Twix and shoves it in his mouth for time to think. Then he says something like, I was looking at possible babysitters, so we can go out and spend more time together. He waits, holding his breath hoping she falls for it. Of course the wife says, Awe how sweet, thank you honey and they go inside. WTF!
I can't be the only one to see all the jacked up subliminal messages in that... right? First- there's the portrayal of young girls and pillow fights and a way older man getting his willies watching, yeah that's real nice perverts. Then the disrespect of the whole scenario; a married man not helping his wife because he's too busy watching young women in a pillow fight. RUDE! Then the fact that they make the woman look like an idiot and submissive. They make it seem like, chewing a Twix helped him lie to his wife and made her dumb enough to believe it! Last but not least, thinking of how he was fantasizing about them, and then offering them up as babysitters...that's disturbing and offensive. This is only ONE of their commercials.
The other one is a guy in a party talking to a woman about stuff trying to find an angle. Then he's interested in her and asks her to go to his apartment-implying for sex-then she acts shocked and says WHAT!? He shoves the Twix in his mouth for time to think, and then says something like, Oh, I thought you were passionate about blogging and talking about your feelings? All innocent like. Then she says, Awe, how sweet, ok let's go. RIDICULOUS!!!! Again another disturbing portrayal of men's tricks and lies to keep a woman.
There are way more brands and Ads then these that constantly imply, if you use a certain product you can get Lot's of women, or that it's ok to cheat. Burger King, AXE, Big Red gum, automobile commercials, etc etc... Restaurants are even made to satisfy men, bars, strip clubs, adult magazines are everywhere mostly men's magazines. You rarely see Playgirl anywhere. Yes, I have looked just to prove my point. You can see a Hooters practically on every block, you don't see a Pecks!( patent pending) In movies you can see naked women in compromising positions in almost every movie.. How often do you see a naked man in a compromising position? Rarely.

As much as I love to write, sex and favoritism is in magazines and newspapers as well, and don't forget music. Nowadays, music is getting really explicit. We barely have a few female rap artist that are able to keep up with the onslaught of men's implications. The one's that are out there, have to fight the stereotypes of being crude and maybe even skanky.

Men with multiple sexual conquests are studs in societies view, but a woman is a whore. The double standards are ongoing and will probably never end. Why can't it just be fair; make things equal? Anything you make to please a man, include women too. What's wrong with that? I thought discrimination was illegal?! I'm not a hater, just an observer!

Our role in society...
So I'm a studier, I find myself constantly pondering people, conversations, things I see, hear, read, news, all sorts of things. One thing that I have noticed time and time again is that people have a hard time defining their Role in society. ( I prefer to say here on Earth. )
Here's how my brain works on this thought and where it came from.
First, lets break down what I mean by Role's: Relationship Role: mom, dad, sister, brother, married, single...Character Role: grumpy, happy, liar, honest... Occupational Role: accountant, construction worker, teacher, student... Society/Governmental Role: Democratic, republican, law abider, felon... Religious Role: Scientology, Christian, Non-Denominational, Buddhist... Ethnic Role: Native American, White, African American... Etc etc...I think you probably get the point.
We all are born something, then throughout life (ideally) we are supposed to live life learning to develop these roles and define them suitable to who we are personally, as human beings. You create goals and characteristics according to these roles, in hopes of maintaining or perfecting the uniqueness that YOU bring to this role.-In short you want to be the best Aunt, Uncle, Cashier, Priest, Baptist, Catholic, Democrat, PTA member etc...so you try by obtaining certain things, knowledge, jobs, degrees, home, etc...to add to our quality of life and maintaining these roles.
The turn comes in when we aren't properly prepared for these roles or can't obtain the things we need to become better at these roles. What happens? We are left to substitute. You can only survive with the tools you presently have, and what you have access to. The "common" American seems to have the bare minimum in basic survival skills in a two-parent home with average income. Imagine taking a parent out of the equation, half the funds out of the equation, maybe change living area or conditions, these type of things can drastically change someones ability to find a balance between personal beliefs, and society's expectations of what role we should play or how we should play that role.
Ultimately it seems to be a life long mission to find a balance of all the roles we play while deciphering society's laws and messages, and maintaining through the everyday struggles that come with living life. What do you think?.......
Candid observations thru my eyez....
